Sustainability Concerns for Conference Travel

In recent years when large, in-person conferences were not possible, we realized the critical need and lasting value for meeting colleagues, new and old, in person to network and discuss the newest and most exciting ideas in magnetism and magnetic materials.  A large, vibrant, in-person MMM provides face-to-face interactions and myriad possibilities to make new connections and be exposed to new developments in our field. These opportunities are irreplaceable, and critical to continued development of our field.

However, as scientists and engineers we are fully aware of the influence carbon dioxide emissions are having on our global climate and acknowledge that in-person attendance of MMM does have impact on carbon footprints.  We note that the new developments in magnetism and magnetic materials that our conference enables have potentially beneficial impact on energy use and climate.  However, we also urge MMM conference attendees to seek methods of offsetting the emissions related to their travel to and from the conference.  Many airlines offer methods of doing so, as do a number of other organizations worldwide.

IF YOU WISH TO HELP OFFSET CARBON EMISSIONS RELATED TO TRAVEL, TO IMPROVE THE SUSTAINABILITY OF THE CONFERENCE, YOU MAY OPT TO PURCHASE CARBON OFFSETS AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION.

To help encourage sustainable attendance, and to further lower the impact of the conference, the IEEE Magnetics Society has generously sponsored matching funds for the first 200 attendees.
